DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop quality assurance processes and procedures relative to the design, qualification, manufacture, inspection, test, and acceptance of products to ensure products adhere to defined requirements.

  • Maintain training program in the aspects of Quality and the Quality Management System (QMS). Maintain Quality Management System (QMS) for compliance to CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration).

  • Develop material for Computer Safety Panel (CSP) review/assessment.

  • Support Review Board process for non-conforming materials and products, as necessary.

  • Support various working groups and panels specializing in anomaly/non-conformance resolution, ensuring the Corrective/Preventative Action Plan (CAP) implementation.

  • Support internal audits, submit findings, recommend Corrective Action Requests (CARs), and ensure timely completion of audits.

  • Conduct product and process assessments/audits for compliance that support continuous improvements.

  • Support the organization in achieving and maintaining a Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) level certification in software development.

  • Develop quality reports/presentations and perform other Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) tasks as necessary.

  • Maintain and improve software quality processes and procedures.

  • Implement and ensure adherence to the non-conformance process that ensures non-conformances are investigated, trends are tracked, and issues resolved.

  • Review and analyze drawings/models, specifications, standards, and conformance criteria for product adherence.

  • Develop reports/status/presentations to S&MA and program leadership in alignment with our quality management system to support the objectives and goals of S&MA.

  • Communicate with subject matter experts across disciplines, users and management throughout the software test and development lifecycle.

  • Communicate technical concepts to all audience types, including non-technical.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in spacecraft software engineering, with a focus on safety-critical systems.

  • Proficiency in C++ programming language, particularly in embedded systems environments.

  • Familiarity with safety standards and guidelines relevant to spacecraft software development, such as NASA-STD-8719.13, 8739.8, SSP-50038

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and mitigate software safety risks effectively.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) commonly used in spacecraft embedded systems.

  • Familiarity with software safety analysis techniques, such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).

  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle processes and methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall.

  • Experience with software verification and validation tools and techniques, such as static analysis, dynamic testing, and model-based testing.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university

  • 5+ years’ experience in Software Quality Assurance for human spaceflight or a combined equivalent of education and experience

  • Experience in maintaining a CMMI level rating in software development is desired but not required.

  • Knowledge of Quality Management System (QMS) and quality processes related to the aerospace industry.

  • Ability to plan, perform analyses, and report results in relationship to the quality requirements, product and process assessments, qualification, inspection, test, audit, trends, and improvement of software products.

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task on multiple projects

  • Ability to thrive in a fast environment and produce timely results

  • Ability to demonstrate strong attention to detail

Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
