Qualifications: Must be a Christian with strong convictions who is also in agreement with Josiah Whites mission statement, Statement of Faith, and Code of Conduct. A high school diploma or equivalency is required. Must hold the basic belief that children are meant to grow up within their family of origin whenever possible and possess significant supportive efforts toward preservation or reunification when necessary. Must have a clear criminal history check and hold a valid drivers license with no restrictions that would limit the ability to perform job functions. Must successfully complete provided training in evidence based models of family treatment upon hire.

Reports to: Family Preservation Supervisor

Job Summary: The Family Skills coach aids program staff to provide parent education, addiction recovery support, and build protective factors in families that lead to family stability. The Family Skills Coach functions as a team member in the professional treatment effort as it applies to each child/family on the assigned caseload. This position is an integral part of the treatment teams efforts toward preservation of the legal family or reunification with the legal family when necessary. The individual must demonstrate sensitivity to our service populations cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs.

**Basic Responsibilities

**Family Skill Building


  • Provide skills training to assist clients with areas such as parenting, addiction recovery, budgeting, time management, meal planning, housekeeping, accessing community resources, etc.
  • Collaborate with treatment team toward the overall assessment and service planning for referred families
  • Prepare and maintain timely and thorough documentation of case records including progress notes, monthly reports, safety plans, service plans, etc.
  • Serve as a resource coordinator for families to meet critical needs; this may involve transporting families to resources or bringing such to them
  • Provide mentoring and teaching resources: nurturing/parenting skills, problem-solving/conflict resolution skills, child development, and self-esteem concepts
  • Identify and engage informal supports to assist after Josiah Whites services are no longer active

*Agency Support and Enhancement *

  • Construct a working relationship with placing agency workers of children and families with whom they work through regular and consistent communication regarding case plan progress
  • Be a positive liaison between Josiah Whites, referring agencies and other community stakeholders by communicating Josiah Whites mission, vision, and values
