Job Description: Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

Summary Description:

Critical Logic is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our dynamic team. As an SDET, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our software products. This is a full-time hired position. We have multiple opportunities, both with current customer projects and looking ahead to adding new customers and new projects with current customers. The SDET we are seeking must be willing and able to provide input into discussions that are geared towards acquiring new customers and projects.

Candidate must be physically located in the United States. This is non-negotiable.

While most of our current projects are with State of Washington agencies, we also work with customers in the private sector. Having experience working in any level of government (Federal, State, County, or local) is a plus, as is having experience working in a consulting role. Specific mandatory qualifications are listed below.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts to ensure the quality and stability of our software products.

  • Directly correlate prior experience with current customers’ needs and requests.

  • Perform functional, regression, integration, and performance testing to uncover software defects and ensure optimal performance.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, product managers, and business analysts, to understand product requirements and design effective test strategies.

  • Identify, document, and track software defects using defect tracking systems, and work closely with the development team to facilitate defect resolution.

  • Participate in design and code reviews to ensure that software development adheres to established quality standards.

  • Design and implement automated test scripts and frameworks to improve testing efficiency and coverage.

  • Conduct root cause analysis for identified defects and work proactively to prevent similar issues in the future.

  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior members of the QA team, and actively contribute to the overall improvement of the QA process.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in quality assurance methodologies, tools, and technologies, and propose their integration into our QA practices.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Proven experience working as a Software Quality Assurance Engineer, with at least 5 years in software quality assurance.

  • Experienced in testing COTS systems that integrate both upstream and downstream with other business systems, including testing the data interfaces between systems in a complex environment.

  • In-depth knowledge of software testing methodologies, tools, and best practices.

  • Strong experience in designing and executing test plans, test cases, and test scripts for complex software systems.

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Python, C#) and experience with test automation frameworks.

  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile development methodologies.

  • Experience with bug tracking systems and version control tools (e.g., Jira, Git).

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.

    Useful Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience working in a consulting role is very desirable.

  • Three (3) years’ experience on Agile projects to modernize legacy systems

  • Four (4) years’ combined experience working with the following technologies (Azure, Angular JavaScript framework, Model View Control (MVC) is desirable.

  • At least one project migrating core legacy applications from on-site client/server architecture to the Azure cloud environment.

  • Three (3) years' experience working on application project(s) developing applications for Washington State (or similar state government applications) that follow State of WA Identity Management User Authentication Standards. (Specifics can be discussed with qualified candidates.)

  • Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) processes and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

  • Experience working in the public sector, such as with local, state, or federal governments.

  • Experience with Robotic Process Automation (RPA).

  • Security clearance (past or current).

  • Willingness to work on Department of Defense (DoD)/Military contracts.

  • Experience with IT Service Management (ITSM).

  • Experience with IT Information Library (ITIL).

  • Certifications in quality assurance, such as ISTQB, CSTE, or CSQA, are a plus.
