Canadian Tire Data Scientist in Toronto, Ontario

What you'll do

As part of Canadian Tire’s Corporation’s Applied AI and Automation team, you will help support the team’s portfolio of innovation, data science and AI projects. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and participate in the design, development, and deployment of data science products.

As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for supporting the data product lifecycle from idea to prototype to production, as well as supporting various parts of our machine learning operations. You will interpret and solve deep business problems by developing predictive models and analysis that make the best use of the wealth of data available across business units, channels, care and marketing platforms. You will be expected to bring deep knowledge of analytics and machine learning competencies and operate in line with the state of the art.

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with specialists in machine learning, data engineering, automation, and solution design, to deliver enterprise-grade data applications to production.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and identify opportunities to drive business value by leveraging artificial Intelligence and machine learning.

  • Work with Business Analysts and other stakeholders to develop solution requirements, propose potential solutions, and support solution design.

  • Work with Project Managers to identify key activities, support project planning, and set timelines.

  • Work with Data Analysts and data engineers to process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis and modeling.

  • Own and lead model development and drive the model development lifecycle.

  • Participate in testing, enhancement, and maintenance of data science solutions.

  • Communicate findings and proposals to business stakeholders and build buy-in for testing/implementation of proven solutions.

  • Work with Solution Architects, Data Engineers, and engineering teams to bring viable models to production.

  • Participate in the CTC data science community and contribute to the CTC Algorithm Vault.

  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment by facilitating information sharing and team cooperation.

  • Mentor and lead Data Analysts and junior Data Scientists assigned to your projects and other CTX projects.

  • Drive innovation by exploring emerging practices and recommending appropriate techniques to solve challenging business problems.

What you bring

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline. Advanced degree such as Master's or Ph.D. in a related field may be preferred.

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience in an Agile environment with excellent understanding of the underlying Statistical, Machine Learning theory and Predictive Modeling Lifecycle.

  • 3+ years of programming experience in Python, R, Scala/PySpark.

  • Demonstrated experience in using open-source platforms such as SciKit-Learn, Tensorflow, SparkML, Torch, Caffe, MLflow.

  • Experience in managing and leading complex projects and/or multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Deep knowledge and demonstrated experience working with various machine learning techniques (optimization, classification, clustering, regression, reinforcement learning) and their deployment to production, preferably in a retail setting.

  • Experience in designing and developing data visualizations that enable users to link insights to action. Experience with data visualization platforms (Tableau, Power BI).
