IST 737: Analytic dashboards support human reasoning in finding valuable insights from large scale data. Students will gain knowledge of human visual reasoning, and obtain the technical skillsnecessary to design, develop and implement analytic dashboards for business, government, or even personal data. This class differs from other data visualization courses by focusing on using tools to develop interactive visualizations and leaning less on knowledge of coding. However, students will draw from their experience in prior classes to build backend models (e.g. automated classification or clustering) that will contribute to the dashboards visual elements.

After taking this course, students will be able to:

· Describe best practices for using (interactive) data visualization to support human reasoning that can deliver actionable insights (visual analytics)

· Design and critique data drive dashboards that support visual analytics

· Use Tableau to build a dashboard that supports visual analytics

· Describe other industry tools that support visual analytics and analyze their strengths and weaknesses
