Amazon Specialist SA Manager, Acceleration Labs in Sydney, Australia

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for experienced and motivated technologists who possess a unique balance of technical depth, strong interpersonal skills, and business acumen to lead and develop a team of early-in-career solutions architects spanning a breadth of technology specializations. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of achievement around talent development programs for Early Career talent and with measurable results.

We’re hiring early-in-career technologists, including recent graduates, military veterans and other pivot their career towards tech, and providing training, coaching, and mentoring to develop them into productive, customer-facing Specialist Solutions Architects (SSAs). SSAs in the practice may include specialists in Databases, Analytics, Compute, Edge Services, Productivity Apps, Storage, Platform Services and Workloads.

In this role, you will be a part of leading and building our “Specialist Acceleration Lab” team, as well as elevating the technical expertise and experience of your team of early-in-career Associate SSAs. The successful candidate must have exceptional coaching skills, strong business judgment, and demonstrated technical experience leading cross-functional teams.

This position is based in Sydney but the role spans the Asia-Pacific-Japan region for AWS.

Key job responsibilities

Talent Recruitment

  • Lead and review the annual planning process including headcount, demand and recruiting, and goal planning the team in your geography.

  • Act as liaison between AWS early career talent programs (i.e. Tech U, Military Apprenticeship and internships), SA leadership and Sales & Operations leading through influence, coordinating, and closing gaps in hiring and new hire development processes.

Talent Development

  • Manage a team of 8-15 recent graduates to scale their career development in US.

  • Proactively manage performance and career of individuals on your team (e.g. coaching, performance feedback, training, promotions)

Program Management

  • Audit existing delivery of early-career programs, creating a closed-loop inspection mechanism to evaluate program outcomes, report progress, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Own the global definition of career progression for early career talent for one of the domains - Databases, Analytics, Compute, Edge Services, Productivity Apps, Storage, etc.

Regional Impact

  • Work with the regional field teams to identify opportunities to drive value for local customers through early career talent in proactive initiatives and scaling activities based on data and customer engagement insights.

  • Identify local needs of the field team and drive alignment of global functions within your scope to address them.

A day in the life

A typical day would involve handling three key aspects:

  • People management: As direct line manager this is your primary responsibility. This includes everything from regular 1:1 calls to special needs of your team members.

  • Program Management: You connect with the domain leaders and tenured SAs to define, refine and implement standardized career progression path for early career talent. You define and report on key milestones of career progression and overall impact to global domain leaders.

  • Regional programs: You work with regional field teams to drive programs of local impact by tapping into Specialist Acceleration Labs talent pool.

The team's mission is to drive tangible impact for AWS customers while developing the future talent pipeline within WWSO.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Proven ability of managing early career talent and developing them

  • Prior working experience as a Solution Architect or similar role

  • Comfortable in engaging effectively across internal and external organizations with technical and non-technical audiences

  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Passion for technology and for learning

  • Technical Degree (Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent) and/or relevant tech experience

  • Proven ability to prioritize conflicting business demands and delivering results

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cloud technology partner ecosystem and related products

  • Previous professional experience architecting / operating solutions built on AWS

  • AWS certification (e.g. AWS Solutions Architect Associate or Professional) or other industry certification
