Park Operations Manager

Duties:

  • Directs the care and maintenance of County park buildings, grounds, vehicles, equipment and furnishings.
  • Inspects facilities to ensure compliance with state and local health, fire and building codes, Risk Management Authority safety guidelines and accessibility requirements.
  • Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates park maintenance personnel. Recommends disciplinary action as appropriate.
  • Instructs park personnel in the proper care and safe use of machinery and equipment.
  • Implements Right to Know program for department to include training of park personnel in the proper use and care of hazardous materials and maintains accurate Safety Data Sheets at each park facility.
  • Coordinates and monitors work of independent contractors and service providers to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
  • Develops and monitors annual budget estimates for supplies, construction, machinery and equipment.
  • Researches and develops specifications for the procurement of goods and services.
  • Oversees park improvement projects.
  • Maintains inventories of supplies and equipment.
  • Designs and directs preventative maintenance programs.
  • Directs and assists with mowing, landscaping, trail construction and maintenance, painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, roofing and masonry work.
  • Directs the organization and care of the Park Operations Center and satellite maintenance facilities.
  • Designs, supervises and assists with the construction of park signs, bridges, boardwalks and road signs.
  • Directs and assists with the cleaning and care of carpets, tile and brick floors.
  • Directs and assists with trail grooming and snow plowing operations.
  • Assists with the pursuit of available grant funding; and budgeting and monitoring financial accounts necessary to carry out grant projects.
  • May act in absence of Parks Director for all aspects of Parks Operations.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, and a minimum of four years of experience in building and/or grounds maintenance operations, which includes one year of supervisory experience.

Special Requirements:

  • Must maintain a valid vehicle operator's license and acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment.
  • Employee will participate in appropriate seminars, conference, in-service training and other professional activities to improve the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the above duties.
  • Will be required to wear a department-issued uniform while on the job.
  • May be required to work holidays and weekends on an as-needed basis.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Computer literacy and basic knowledge of email, word-processing, spreadsheet, project management software and other applications.

Clear understanding of the equipment, practices and procedures used in the care of buildings, grounds, vehicles, equipment and furnishings.

Considerable knowledge of the tools, materials, practices and procedures used in the building construction trades.

General knowledge of state and local health, fire and building codes.

Skill in the operation of machinery and equipment used in grounds maintenance and building construction.

Able to troubleshoot equipment failures.
