DESCRIPTION

Salary - $16 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY: The employee is responsible for ensuring the safety of facility guests by preventing and responding to emergencies that may occur at the East Race.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Employees are responsible for successfully completing all pre-season training and East Race rescue class.
  • Employees are responsible for preventing injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors,
  • Employees are responsible for enforcing all park and aquatic policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Employees are responsible for using effective surveillance with proper scanning, victim recognition, recognize and respond effectively in emergencies.
  • Employees are responsible for inspecting the facility/equipment and reporting any unsafe conditions, or damaged equipment to the Aquatic Manager or Supervisor on duty.
  • Employees are responsible for attending and participating in regular in-service training sessions.
  • Employees are responsible for understanding proper radio procedures when communicating with other staff during East Race hours.
  • Employees are responsible for ensuring all guests have a proper fitting life jacket and helmet.
  • Employees are responsible for understanding how the rescuer life jacket is used to rescue a submerged victim and how its quick release function works.
  • Employees are responsible for understanding how the snag bag is used to rescue a submerged victim.
  • Employees are responsible for completing incident reports and other records.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities requested by the Aquatics and Ice Manager or East Race Supervisor.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 15 years of age.
  • Requires interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and interact with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Be able to learn on the job.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION:American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED/Oxygen/Bloodborne Pathogens and must successfully compete and pass East Race Recuse Class

EQUIPMENT:Throw Bag, Rescue Lifejacket, D-ring, Snag Bag, Ambu Bag, Oxygen Tank, First-Aid Kit, Backboard, Resuscitation Mask, Radio

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, walk, kneel, and stoop. The employee will have to sue hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and reach with the hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required to do this job include the ability to adjust focus. At tim s the heat and noise level can be extreme.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:The noise level at the East Race Waterway may be moderate to loud at times. Work in all weather conditions.
