DESCRIPTION

Salary - $15 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:Plans, organizes, implements, and conducts planned programs at Camp Awareness, an outdoor day camp held at the Izaak Walton League, Wheel Lock Park.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Camp Awareness Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm.
  • Responsible for the supervision and support of Campers attending Camp Awareness.
  • Follow camp plans and programs such as skits storytelling, camp hikes, making campfires, making bug juice, stream stomp, etc.
  • Assists with daily paperwork, such as attendance rosters.
  • Responsible for assisting/supporting with Jr. Counselors
  • Responsible for working with the staff on Parents Day skits.
  • Responsible for reporting any accident, incident, or staffing concerns to the supervisor.
  • Assists with daily inspections of the park and turns in appropriate safety checks and work orders.
  • Responsible for the safety and care of the campers.
  • Administers first aid and written reports.
  • Use appropriate and positive discipline consistently.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Two years of experience in an outdoor camp setting preferred.
  • Leadership experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Enjoys working with youth ages 7-14 years.
  • Ability to effectively communicate directions or instructions to individuals and groups
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public, children, parents, and care givers.
  • Ability to learn, instruct, and implement new activities and programs.
  • Ability to work with special needs/behaviorally challenged children, and children with medical conditions.
  • Creative, imaginative, enthusiastic, resourceful, and extremely flexible.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION: CPR/AED and First Aid Certified

EQUIPMENT:Walkie-Talkie, Telephone, Sports and Recreational equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is performed outside. Weather conditions can be normal to extreme hot or cold, wet, or dry. The noise level can be moderate to high. The entire camp area is smo e free.
