Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The Seattle, Washington office is seeking a Structural Engineer to support our growing office and region. We are looking for experienced, motivated candidates with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong multi-disciplinary team.

The Seattle office of Schnabel focuses on the evaluation and design of dams, structures, and facilities as well as advancing our practice of risk informed decision making within our dam engineering group. Example projects include the inspection, evaluation and design of embankment and concrete dams, spillways, outlet works, and instrumentation, and performing risk assessments for dam owners for sites located across the United States.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform/review analysis and design of steel and concrete structures

  • Prepare/review design drawings, reports, and technical specifications

  • Maintain project communication with coworkers and clients

  • Responsible for project progress

  • Perform inspections of dams and hydraulic structures

  • Provide construction site observation and engineering services

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering

  • A licensed Civil/Structural Engineer

  • Analysis and design of steel and concrete structures

  • Responsible for completion of calculations, drawings, reports, etc.

  • Competent with computer-aided structural analysis, i.e. STAAD, SAP, ETAB, etc.

  • Proficiency with Excel and/or Mathcad as engineering calculation tools

  • Competent with ASCE, AISC, and ACI codes

  • Knowledge/understanding of FERC, USACE, USBR, FEMA, etc. guidelines/regulations

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with coworkers and clients

  • Willingness to perform field work and travel as required by projects

  • Ability to negotiate at construction sites and practice site safety

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering

  • 5+ years of engineering design experience in steel and concrete structures

  • Experience in dams or hydraulic structures

  • Prior construction support or field engineer experience

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, and or Bluebeam

  • SPRAT level 1 certification and ability to climb for inspections

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment employment drug screening
