Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

We are building the platform for AI Copilots for Microsoft. We focus on the infrastructure used to power Bing Chat, M365 Chat, Windows Copilot, and other cutting edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) Copilot solutions. Copilots are intelligent assistants that help users find deep insights into various tasks and then help users accomplish what they need to. Copilots leverage the power of LLMs to provide personalized and contextualized guidance, support, and action.

We work with a great team of engineers on the latest technological trends in AI, Large Language Models (LLMs) , Agents, Open Source Software (OSS), AI safety, security, and privacy. We aim to take the very best ideas and turn them into business strategies and products.

We are expanding our team and looking for a Principal Software Engineer who is passionate about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and can lead our team in the development of cutting-edge solutions. As a tech lead, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying products and services to address complex business challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Work on the delivery of quality service and components that will power the experiences across products.

  • Work with stakeholders to identify business needs and develop solutions that align with their objectives.

  • Help the team plan and execute technical deliverables. 

  • Mentor other developers on the team in software development life cycle and best practices

  • Stay current with the latest developments in technologies and bring innovative ideas and insights to the team.

  • Ensure the quality, scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability of services.

  • Participate in design and code reviews, and contribute to the development of a clean, well-documented codebase.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a technical leader, collaborate with others to deliver a set of features with the right overall design, architecture, implementation, and monitorability.

  • 8+ years of experience in designing, developing, and shipping scale services.

  • Experience in coding, debugging and algorithm design skills.

  • Experience in backend technologies such as .NET, relational and/or non-relational (NoSQL) databases, web services and RESTful concepts. Expertise in Web technologies is a plus.

  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.

  • Experience operating, troubleshooting, and supporting performance and business critical production systems.

  • Proficient communication and leadership skills.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
