The Challenge
We are hiring an entry-level engineer to join our Division 5 team lead smart transportation construction projects in Wake, Durham, Franklin, and Vance counties.
In this role, you will:
- Learn highway maintenance methods, techniques, construction standards and specifications.
- Learn and apply skills in the operations of field and office engineering instruments.
- Lead teams and coordinate reviews of technical plans and drawings.
- Safely operate a State vehicle.
What You Bring
- Computer/iPad skills.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of concepts, practices, and theories used in engineering
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and organized documents and reports addressing basic engineering concepts and facts.
- Knowledge of the principals and practices of engineering.
- Ability to plan, organize, and schedule daily tasks.
- Maturity to make independent decisions.
- Team skills to work collaboratively towards group decisions.
- Ability to listen and communicate effectively with coworkers, contractors, developers, local and state officials, and the public
- Project management skills to prioritize and delegate project assignments.
- Ability to interpret plans, provisions, specifications, policies, procedures, and regulations and apply them when reviewing construction drawings.
- Safety to shoes.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Note
- You may be required to work nights and weekends, as needed, for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces and slopes.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
