Project Overview:

The role is based on the Port Arthur Liquefaction Project site (7 miles south of Port Arthur, Texas), and works a 48-hour extended work week. The successful candidate will be willing and able to work a reasonable amount of overtime and if required night shift, as needed to support safe project execution.

Job Summary:

Assigned to the Construction organization as the Tanks Office Surveyor / Survey Cad Specialist - (TOS), responsible for providing survey computations and drafting support as required to the construction survey team. The TOS reports directly to the Project Lead Surveyor (PLS). The TOS interprets design drawings and specifications to determine associated commodities and equipment locations and provides direction and supervision to the Tanks area assigned field survey teams in support of the civil, structural, mechanical, and piping installations in the work area.

  • Identify the location of underground services and maintaining a drawing with as-built underground installations to support excavation permitting process.

  • Prepare survey CAD drawings as required in the performance of duties, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations.

  • Perform Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments.

  • Support the implementation of the UAV (Drones) program and Dimensional Control survey operations

  • Support the implementation of the Laser Scanning operations and the Metrology Surveys operations

  • Assist the PLS with providing direction and training to less experienced survey team members.

  • Contribute to mentoring junior survey team members and support the Corporate Survey Manager with their Bechtel career paths and growth

  • During the initial phase of the assignment to the project, the Office Surveyor will also function as a party chief responsible for supervising a field survey crew, or as a member of a field crew.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide office and field technical support to the tanks survey team(s) including directing the field crew(s), processing of survey data and preparation of deliverables utilizing survey industry best practices.

  • Responsible for overall office and field quality and integrity of the tanks surveying scope of work (S.O.W.).

  • Support the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs

  • Coordinates the field work required with the Tanks Field Engineers

  • Ensures that survey office calculations activity execution supports construction schedule.

  • Review and approve survey data from field crews and ensure survey documentation is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.

  • Support with the verification of the Primary, Secondary and Tertiary control points.

  • Review Survey Control field work and perform accurate network least squares adjustments.

  • Responsible for the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job specifications and appropriate methods of performing survey activities

  • Utilize survey instruments in accordance with Bechtel survey procedures including Robotic Total Station, GNSS equipment and digital level.

  • Interprets design drawings and specifications to determine associated commodities and equipment locations

  • Perform and/or check survey computations utilizing AutoCAD Civil3D software

  • Perform Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments

  • Support the administration of the survey work request program

  • Provide civil and mechanical Tanks S.O.W. completion documentation including "As-Built" record

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior Bechtel Survey Mega-Project experience.

  • Working knowledge of Bechtel construction procedures.

  • Experience with Bentley MicroStation.

  • Experience with Tekla Software.

  • Experience managing technical services subcontracts is desirable

  • Experience with Laser Scanning hardware and Leica Cyclone and other scanning software.

  • Experience with UAV/Drones & Photogrammetry field & office activities

  • FAA Part 107 - UAS Remote Pilot Certificate

  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to Metrology field & office activities

  • General awareness of environmental laws

  • Awareness of government compliance standards

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.

  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Incidents” safety program. Must have a strong drive toward Safety, both on and off the job, a commitment to seeing everyone go home each day as well and healthy as they came to work that day.

  • Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards.

  • Must have a solid record of successful project completion with little to zero rework.

  • Knowledge of heavy industrial construction survey principles.

  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to heavy industrial construction surveying field & office activities.

  • Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with survey team members, other departments, and contractors, and survey functional management.

  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Excellent problem-solving ability.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Survey CAD software, such as TBC (Trimble Business Center), Leica Infinity and AutoCAD Civil 3D; including proficiency with construction layout computations and generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations; and drafting of as staked/as-built data.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with transferring data to and from field data controllers.

  • Must have experience managing teams working on multiple work fronts; experience working under time constraints and must be adaptable to changing conditions.

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education.

  • Must be physically capable to participate in project walkdowns, which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in or maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 40lbs without assistance.
