Length:

Term of positions is 52 weeks; full-time 40 hrs/wk

Compensation:

$18.75/hour (pre-tax), plus $1000 monthly housing allowance (pre-tax) ($250 per week)

Start Date:

July 8, 2024

Special Uses Resource Assistant

Position Details

Stewards Individual Placement Program (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.

Stewards in partnership with the Tonto National Forest seek a Special Uses Resource Assistant to ensure permits are issued when appropriate and performed per law, regulation, and policy. Special Use permits authorize multiple uses that boost the local economy and provide environmental research and education.

Position Responsibilities will include:

· 1. Special Uses Database (SUD's):

o Monitoring of SUD’s for Admin to Standard requirements

o Creating SUD’s reports on request

· 2. Billing:

o Annual billing of select Special Use Permits

o Tracking of bills, payments & dunnings

o Creation of bills & dunnings

o Monitoring unclaimed payment database

o Billing point of contact for permittee questions

o Creation & tracking of Cost Recovery billing on request

· 3.Special Use:

o Creation of special use permits/cost recovery agreements on request

o Assist with permit audits

o Maintain permit financial files

o Create special use files

o Maintain special use file system

o Filing of special use paperwork on request

o Correspondence with permittees regarding special use issues

· B. Trainings provided related to activity:

o Special Uses Database, GIS, Specific special uses training as available

Minimum Requirements:

· Bachelors degree

· Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by Conservation Legacy (over 21 years old or drivers license for at least three years).

· Must be 18 years or older.

· Must have High School Diploma/GED

· Must have or be able to obtain a post-secondary degree by end of service (Associate’s or Higher)

Preferred Qualifications:

· GIS Skills

Benefits:

· $1000.00/month living allowance. (pre-tax, $250 per week)

· $50/monthly commuting allowance. (pre-tax)

· $4,750.00 Professional Development and Travel fund.

· On-the-job training related to position responsibilities.

· Eligible for Health Benefits after 60 days of employment

*The USFS Resource Assistant Program (RAP) is a rigorous, immersive, paid internship providing developmental and training opportunities for individuals interested in learning more about Forest Service careers. After completing a minimum of 960 hours of satisfactory work and an associate degree, RA’s may acquire a two-year certificate of noncompetitive hiring eligibility. The certificate enables participants to apply to internal merit announcements for qualifying permanent General Schedule FS positions as well as a Direct Hire Authority for FS Career positions.
