Position Announcement

 

Utah Valley University is seeking a TYE Program Manager! The Program Manager oversees the TYE Center programming including partnerships with historically underserved communities and collaborations with the Theatre Department and other School of the Arts entities to provide audience and workshop experiences to young people and their families. Manages youth productions and student staff in the annual summer camp program. Manages and cultivates partnerships with lower income schools and community groups that provide drama and theatre experiences to children and youth. Coordinates the TYE Center website and media offerings. Collaborates with the TYE Center Director in managing programming that serves theatre and elementary education majors and elementary and secondary teachers and students.

 

Summary of Responsibilities

 

• Manage programming that serves historically underserved communities in the UVU service region, such as the Autism community, the Hispanic community, the Deaf community, lower-income families, and seniors. Examples include communicating with directors, stage managers, and house staff to accommodate Sensory Friendly and ASL performances, recruiting Hispanic families to attend public performances of bilingual touring shows, communicating with administrators to book bilingual touring show performances in Title I schools and schools with high percentages of native Spanish speaking students, booking student performances in senior homes, arranging vans for touring shows etc.

• Manage and cultivate partnerships and collaborations with the Theatre Department and other School of the Arts entities including its other academic departments, the Noorda Series, and the UVU Museum of Art to provide young people and their families with audience and workshop experiences. Examples include scheduling schools to attend daytime matinees of theatre department productions and recruitment night performances, arranging bus grants, promoting student workshops with Noorda Series artists, coordinating bus-in matinees for Noorda Center and Dance Department performances, arranging for Museum docents to offer arts experiences for children in summer drama classes etc.

• Manage performances by young people in the annual summer camp program and recruit, hire, and supervise UVU student staff for that program. Examples include posting and hiring student staff members for summer camp, attending candidate interviews, supervising TIMS entries for hourly staff members, arranging costume rentals for summer camp junior musicals, borrowing sets and props for summer camp youth play, communicating with Community Education on catalogue course listings, enrollments, and paperwork for the summer camp etc.

• Manage and cultivate partnerships with lower income schools and community groups that provide drama and theatre experiences to children and youth. Examples including promoting hiring opportunities for UVU students at after-school drama programs in Title I schools, lending backdrops and microphones to schools, providing technical support and consulting junior musicals in lower income schools, consulting with school leaders in creating sustainable drama programs at their sites, etc.

• Coordinate the TYE Center website and support media projects that share recorded performances of theatre pieces with schools, teachers, students, and directors in academic, school, and professional settings. Examples include providing webpage updates to campus website a dministrators uploading new videos to the American Theatre for the Very Young Digital Festival that the TYE Center curates and sponsors, promoting online touring show vide and JSK web videos on TYE Center site etc.

• Collaborates with the TYE Center Director in managing programming that serves elementary and secondary school teachers and students, including school touring shows, playwriting contests, workshops, and trainings. Examples include promoting the AATE Playwrights for Change contest for middle and high school playwrights, promoting Wednesday night THEA classes and elementary drama endorsements with elementary teachers, etc.

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in Theatre, Education, Arts Administration, or a field related to the Summary of Duties and one year experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree. Experience in managing arts and community partnerships. Experience managing or teaching in performing arts programs for children or youth. Fluency in Spanish or ASL.
