Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Financial Analyst to join our hospital finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare finance and a proven track record of financial analysis, budgeting, and strategic planning within a hospital or healthcare setting. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst will play a key role in analyzing financial data, identifying trends, and providing insights to support decision-making and financial performance improvement.

The work schedule is hybrid and requires 3 days per week onsite; 2 days offsite.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree : A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field is often a minimum requirement. This provides a foundational understanding of financial principles, accounting practices, and business concepts.

  • Master's Degree (Optional) : While not always required, having a master's degree can enhance your qualifications and competitiveness for senior-level positions. A Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Finance or Healthcare Management is particularly valuable for roles in hospital finance. An MBA program provides advanced coursework in financial analysis, strategic planning, and leadership skills.

  • Certifications (Optional) : While not a substitute for formal education, professional certifications can demonstrate expertise and commitment to the field. Relevant certifications for senior financial analysts in hospital finance may include:

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA): Focuses on investment management and financial analysis.

  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA): Focuses on management accounting and financial management.

  • Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP): Specifically tailored to healthcare finance, covering topics such as revenue cycle management, healthcare regulations, and financial management in healthcare organizations.

EXPERIENCE

  • Industry Experience : Ideally, several years of experience working specifically in the healthcare industry, preferably within hospital finance or a related healthcare finance role. This experience provides a deep understanding of the unique financial challenges, regulations, and dynamics of the healthcare sector.

  • Financial Analysis and Reporting : Candidates should have a solid foundation in financial analysis, including experience with financial modeling, variance analysis, and financial reporting. Experience in preparing and analyzing financial statements, budgets, and forecasts is essential.

  • Budgeting and Planning : Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning is important. Candidates should have experience developing and managing budgets, tracking financial performance against targets, and providing insights to support strategic decision-making.

  • Revenue Cycle Management : Experience with revenue cycle management processes, including billing, coding, and reimbursement, is highly valuable. Candidates should be familiar with revenue cycle optimization strategies and have a track record of improving revenue collection processes.

  • Cost Management and Analysis : Experience in cost management and analysis is critical. Candidates should have a strong understanding of cost structures in healthcare organizations and experience identifying cost-saving opportunities, analyzing cost variances, and implementing cost control measures.

  • Data Analysis and Technology Skills : Proficiency in data analysis tools and financial software is essential. Candidates should have experience extracting, organizing, and analyzing financial data from various sources, such as electronic health records (EHR) systems and financial databases.

  • Regulatory Compliance : Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance requirements is important. Candidates should have experience navigating regulatory frameworks such as HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, and other healthcare regulations that impact financial operations.

  • Leadership and Collaboration : Candidates should have demonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with senior management. Experience leading financial projects or initiatives and working in cross-functional teams is valuable.

  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making : Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions are essential. Candidates should have experience analyzing complex financial issues, identifying root causes, and developing practical solutions.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of healthcare administration and reimbursement.

  • Working knowledge of healthcare industry and trends (local and national), including new technologies, state databases, and market competitors.

  • Working knowledge of financial analysis principles, methods, practices, and procedures.

  • Working knowledge of financial modeling.

  • Working knowledge of computerized accounting/financial systems and how it’s used in compiling, recording, maintaining accounting/financial transactions and information.

  • Ability to translate complex financial data and analysis into reports and presentations for appropriate audience.

  • Ability to read, comprehend, interpret and apply policies, procedures, practices, and regulatory and legal requirements.

  • Critical thinking and analytical skills.

  • Organization skills and attention to details.

  • Displays a customer service focus in all decisions and actions.

  • Ability to prioritize workload to complete assignments accurately and timely, and to meet strict timelines.

  • Ability to communicate through verbal and written means.

Pay Range is $59.82 to $89.73 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
