UPMC Histology Lead in New Castle, Pennsylvania

UPMC Jameson is hiring a full-time Histology Lead to join our team of excellent Laboratory Services professionals!

The Histology Lead will mainly work a daylight shift with no on-call, weekends or holidays required. No travel would be required for this position.

Purpose:

Process and prepare specialized tissue samples in a clinical laboratory. Ability to process all Center of Excellence specialized tissues and specimens and prepare all specialized stains and techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee workflow and assign staff to control the daily throughput.

  • Assist supervisor in developing work schedules and define rotational workflow duties of laboratory staff.

  • Identify capital equipment needs and present workflow justification to the supervisor.

  • Maintain and update procedure manuals. Correlate work practices to written procedures and present any necessary changes to the supervisor.

  • Assure staff compliance with required instrument maintenance protocols to maximize instrument operation and assure consistent specimen quality outcomes.

  • Participate in QA activities; identify issues that require focused QI team initiative.

  • Define issues and problems in operations, identify solutions, and justify recommended solution.

  • Work with supervisor to assess staff competency based on lab specific checklists.

  • Provide input to the performance evaluations of other laboratory personnel.

  • Demonstrates proper quality control techniques during review of routine and special stains.

Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT/HTL program within the last 5 years OR an Associate's degree OR 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry OR Bachelor's degree with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry. 4 years of clinical laboratory experience post-training if certified as HT OR 3 years of clinical laboratory experience post-training if certified as an HTL.
