Pike Corporation Payroll Tax Manager in Mount Airy, North Carolina

Position Summary: The Payroll Tax Manager is a vital part of the Pike Payroll Team. The position will require subject matter expertise (SME) in payroll tax, reporting and compliance. In addition, the position is responsible for managing the company’s compliance with all federal, local and state payroll tax requirements and managing third-party vendors (e.g. ADP) responsible for accurate and on-time filings and remittance of taxes on varying schedules. Currently the position will have one direct report called a Payroll Business Analyst to assist in carrying out the various responsibilities of payroll tax management.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain current knowledge and seek continuing education of payroll taxation and administration. Work with Payroll Director and other payroll team members to provide guidance and clarification on complex taxation issues.

  • Maintains employee confidentiality and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential

  • Advise on and provide resolution of payroll tax issues while performing and using industry wide best practices

  • Respond timely to employees regarding inquiries on emails, phone calls and payroll tax issues

  • Identify and recommend opportunities for improvement and partner with the appropriate parties to test and implement new improvements

  • Ensure accuracy of tax filings on quarterly, monthly, semi-monthly, annual etc. filing schedules

  • Plan, maintain, execute successful year-end processing for all tax and proactively schedule follow-ups with Payroll Director on status’

  • Work with various departments on completion of audits, tax credits, costing etc. that arise from payroll taxation

  • Manage Payroll Tax Team to ensure all processes are followed (Protect PII, scan to perceptive, setup tracking cases, respond to questions timely/professionally etc.)

  • Entering Tracker cases for all transactions- emails, calls, mail, etc…In most cases involving direct employee issues, these cases should be closed within 48 business hours.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and relevant hands-on experience

  • Experience with Oracle HCM/Payroll is preferred

  • Ability to successfully mentor and manage people – a team player that is dedicated to the success of the organization

  • Experience with large, multi-state employer

  • CPP or other relevant certification is preferred

  • Detail oriented with expertise in written and verbal communication

The employee may be subject to one or more of the following atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
