What you’ll be doing

The Senior Analyst, Underwriting is responsible for reviewing, processing, and negotiating the approval of residential mortgages, supporting higher approval inquiries from intermediate underwriters, manager requests, and escalation rotation. The role applies comprehensive knowledge and skills in residential mortgage underwriting to act as a consultant for branches, mortgage advisors, and brokers seeking to appeal credit decisions, negotiating satisfactory resolution to applications within CIBC’s business and credit risk objectives. The Senior Analyst, Underwriting exercises independent judgement within defined procedures, providing specialized advice and guidance on company policy, procedures, and security value estimates. The role works with limited direction, providing direction to junior underwriters and acting in a leadership capacity to assist in coaching, training, and quality assurance. In addition, the role prepares and makes recommendations to the manager where residential mortgage applications are above the authorized limit.

How you’ll succeed

  • Make Effective Decisions – Negotiate, approve/ decline and make recommendations for applications within established CIBC processes, guidelines within an authorized lending limit of up to $2,500,000, including residential mortgage, real estate secured and unsecured applications.

  • Facilitate Risk Assessment – Review, prepare and make considered recommendations to Manager or senior underwriter where residential mortgage application is above authority limit.

  • Exercise Analytical Mindset Gather, review and assess information and complete documentation to support each credit application within CIBC risk parameters and Insurers guidelines as applicable.

  • Foster Relationship building – Effectively handle correspondence and telephone enquiries from internal business partners and external business partners such as insurers, appraisers and solicitors.

  • Be Agile – Manage high work volumes to meet short time lines with a high level of quality and due diligence. You will also be expected to review a variety of lending products on a daily basis.

  • Leadership Provide direction to more junior underwriters, including acting in a leadership capacity to assist in coaching, training and quality assurance. Prepare and make considered recommendations to Manager or Special Adjudication where residential mortgage application is above authority limit.
