Mercer Transportation Assistant Controller in Louisville, Kentucky

As the Assistant Controller, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing all financial functions related to accounting and internal control over financial reporting, assets, and liabilities of the company. Collaborating closely with the Controller, you will contribute to budget preparation, financial forecasting, and the innovation of new policies and procedures to enhance our financial and accounting systems.Essential Job Functions:Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) through thorough research and implementation.Manage all aspects of the general ledger effectively.Provide comprehensive training, guidance, and leadership to staff, ensuring accurate and timely financial information.Prepare and consolidate financial statements in alignment with company standards.Conduct monthly, quarterly, and year-end analyses to assess financial performance.Collaborate with the Controller and department heads to interpret and analyze financial data, recommending strategies to maximize profitability.Maintain a robust accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets, enhance operations, and manage business risks.Communicate financial concepts clearly and persuasively, driving desired behaviors among stakeholders.Utilize technology proficiently to generate financial reports and optimize information systems.Review audit issues and implement necessary corrections.Essential Skills and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA or CPA preferred.Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Accounting and Management.At least 2 years of experience in Internal Audit, Financial Management, or a related field, preferably within the logistics or transportation industry.Strong knowledge of advanced accounting theory and practice, cost accounting, accounting systems and procedures, and modern office methods.Familiarity with GAAP, federal, state, and international financial regulations (e.g., CTPAT Regulations).Proficiency in short and long-term budgeting, forecasting, and product-line profitability analysis.Essential Physical Requirements and Work Environment:Ability to meet physical demands associated with the job, including sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods, operating office equipment, and lifting up to 25 pounds.Visual and auditory acuity within normal parameters, with proficiency in using hands and fingers for keyboard and mouse operation, equipment handling, and document filing.Supervision of Others:Accounting SpecialistAccounting AssociateAccounts Payable
