Netflix Manager, Music Creative Production - Animation Series in Los Angeles, California
Netflix’s Music Creative & Production (MCP) team provides premiere music support to our productions and cross-functional partners by leveraging relationships and guiding the music creative, scoring, and budgeting process from development to launch. Our goal is to empower Netflix to thrill the world by deepening fan engagement and to amplify storytelling through music.
This role will oversee the music process for titles across each Animated Series vertical, including Preschool, Kids & Family, and Adult Animation Action, and Adult Animation Comedy. The successful candidate will excel at identifying and implementing cross-functional creative music solutions that will support our animation productions and overall slate.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with showrunners, producers, and studio executives (Content, Prod mgmt, Post, Legal, Finance) to oversee and execute music objectives for Netflix Series Animation
Act as Music Informed Captain on titles for the multiple Netflix Music cross-functional teams: Soundtrack, Music Marketing, Music BALA, Music Services, etc.
Read development scripts, ideate with Content on musical identity of series, and recommend appropriate music schedule & budget in internal review
In alignment with Content, recommend key music hires: Songwriter and/or Composer, Music Supervisor, Executive Music Producer. Collect and curate reels to present to internal and external partners and help schedule composer, showrunner meetings. Collaborate closely with Music Business & Legal Affairs (BALA) to define parameters of deals for creative music hires.
Work with Production Management, Composer, and Post to develop a music post schedule that coincides with series Post timeline.
On high impact titles, steer crucial creative music direction on score/songs with the Composer/Songwriter and help manage the score/song note process between the producer(s), creative executive(s) and composer.
Liaise with the music supervisor in the process of song selection as it relates to creative studio approvals and budget.
Strategize and collaborate with Netflix Soundtrack and Music Marketing teams on music release strategy for titles including potential label partnerships, marketing activations, etc.
Skills & Qualifications:
Possessing a keen musical ear and background to assess creative excellence on scores and original songs and provide specific feedback where appropriate
Deep knowledge in the music talent space - songwriters, producers, composers, artists, music supervisors, managers, agents
Knowledge of and passion for animated content and music in general, including Preschool and Kids & Family content
Deep knowledge of the music industry, digital streaming platforms, music publishing, music licensing, record labels, PROs
Familiarity with current musical landscape/music tastemaker
Comfortability being project and talent facing
Highly organizational and comfortable creating and maintaining systems
Team player with the ability to prioritize, respond, pivot quickly, think practically, positively, and be solution-oriented
Ability to be discrete and maintain confidential information
Ability to work proactively, independently, and reliably on multiple projects under tight time frames in a fast-paced production environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to multitask
Open to suggestions and feedback
Exercises good judgment and initiative when making decisions
Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $160,000 - $360,000.
