Ultium Cells Quality Planning Engineer in Lansing, Michigan

Ultium Cells is a joint venture lithium-Ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solutions and General Motors. This new construction high-technology plant will have the latest battery cell manufacturing technology. The investment in this new business venture represents a commitment of more than $2.3 Billion. It will be among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce battery cells for General Motors North American electric vehicle applications.

Job Summary:

A Quality Planning Engineer is responsible for quality monitoring duties, producing reports to be shared internally with Ultium Leadership as well as communicate with LG and GM partners. This position will work to coordinate and create a Quality Management system that incorporates both LG and GM standards and manage the roll out to other departments. Tasks will include various assignments related to Quality Monitoring, Strategic Planning, Asset Management and Quality Systems.

Responsibilities may include:

• Asset management including calibration process set up and ongoing monitoring

• IATF certification preparation and QMS development

• Manage Fast Response and NCR tracking, as well as supporting root cause analysis.

• Manage daily process goals and achievement rate (Yield, Quality), and establishment/monitoring of department KPIs.

• Manage the quality issues, root cause finding, corrective actions implementation and prevention of reoccurrence.

• Update department team charts, help with manpower rearrangement.

• Ensure to maintain and improve the communications and escalation in operation group.

• Manage the 7Waste and continuous improvement activities on the floor and in the office.

• Manage the 5'S auditing, improvement action, 5'S training.

• Track department costs

• Perform internal audits and coordinate/participate with external audits

• Help manage document control

• Understand team leader direction and follow it properly.

Qualifications:

• Bilingual (English, Korean) not required but a plus

• Disciplined: Driven by objectives/KPI's; consistent; and high personal ownership to upholding accountability to established standards and practices.

• B.A. in Engineering, Business Administration or relative management experiences (minimum 4 years)

• 3+ years of experience in complex mechanical assembly, tooling, and manufacturing in a highly automated facility.

• 3+ years leading/managing multiple processes

• Ability to maintain accountability and discipline, and achieve results, in a dynamic, growing environment.

• Able to work flexible hours as needed to support 24/7 operated floor.

• Conducts self and business in professional manner

• Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze data and derive actionable insights.

• Ability to think strategically and to lead change

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
