Job Description

AECOM ’s Ecology team is looking for applicants for the position of Arborist to support our existing activities and to grow our capacity to serve clients on challenging and exciting projects across the province.

The successful candidate will have 2-4 years of consulting arborist experience, be highly motivated and enjoy working on a diversity of projects, be an effective communicator and be committed to producing high quality work. Individuals should have a strong background conducting tree inventories and tree health assessments, completing arborist reports and tree preservation plans, as well as experience with tree removal and injury permit applications. Individuals should also have knowledge and experience in the taxonomic identification of woody plants, including native and non-native species that occur in natural areas as well as landscape varieties and street trees.

Individuals should have a background preparing, coordinating and conducting field work and completing associated data analysis and reporting. Strong organizational skills, leadership skills, and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment are essential qualities.

Individuals must be willing to travel to complete field work across the GTA and other areas of Ontario and Canada.

Key roles for the position include:

  • Support a field crew to undertake data collection and field investigations related to tree inventories in urban and remote sites in southern and central Ontario and Canada

  • Data entry and report writing, including tree inventory reports, tree inventory plans, etc.

  • Adhere to AECOM’s Health and Safety Protocols

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental science or biology, from a recognized University or College

  • 2+ years of experience

  • ISA Arborist Certification

  • Knowledge of and experience with application of tree by-laws and policies across southern and central Ontario

  • Strong technical capability in identifying flora of southern and central Ontario and ability to apply/use dichotomous keys

  • Demonstrated experience conducting field work in southern and central Ontario

  • Experience with air photo interpretation (hard/soft copy), Global Positioning Systems, and map and compass orientation

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently

  • Ability to work in both field and office environments

  • Valid Ontario Drivers License

  • Valid Standard First Aid + CPR

Preferred Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience

  • Has access to a vehicle for conducting field work

  • Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ)

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $45,000.00 - $70,000.00.
