ASRC Federal Holding Company Principal Mechanical Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama

ASRC Federal Agile Decision Sciences is a premier provider of systems engineering, software engineering, system integration and project management services for real-time, mission-critical defense systems.

We are seeking highly motivated Mechanical Engineers to support the development and sustainment of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) anti-ballistic missile system project in Huntsville, AL. This position requires on-site work to be performed in Huntsville, AL. There are no remote work options.

The selected Principal Mechanical Engineer (Structural Analysis) will support the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapons Systems (GWS) Ground Support Systems (GSS) product team and be responsible for analyzing complex systems and developing solutions to structural analysis problems. Establish design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration, and test.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs structural analysis, functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

  • Generates reports and presents to Government counterparts, defense contractors, and other cross-functional organizations

  • Research, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems

  • Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines

Requirements :

  • Must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance which is required to start

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 7 years of related experience, or 4 years of experience with a PhD

  • Strong background in mechanical design, analysis, assembly and integration and environmental testing

  • Experience with design and development of precision mechanical components and assemblies

  • Ability to conduct trade studies of engineering analysis and present results in written format

  • Demonstrated ability to articulate technical concepts to other internal and customer teams

  • Finite Element/Finite Difference analysis experience

  • Computer aided design experience using Solidworks or equivalent CAD packages

  • Experience with thermal and structural analysis methodologies and software tools

  • Must be able to support an in-person / closed-area work environment

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering

  • Specialty Engineering Experience: Environmental and/or Safety.

  • Experience with mechanical overhaul procedure development at the equipment and system level.

  • Experience conducting analysis of mechanical components and structures involving launch equipment, determining effectiveness, and creating written recommendations for increasing efficiency.
