Job Summary:

The General Superintendent is responsible for coordinating all site construction activities and supervising all subcontract personnel, from project start through final acceptance by client. They act as a liaison with client, architect, and subcontract/vendor contacts related to the project. Will resolve construction issues, interface with the Project Manager, oversee project staff, and administer all activities related to executing submittals, documentation, and schedules. The position is directly responsible for timeliness and quality of the work and implementation and monitoring of corporate safety policy.

Education:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering Management, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

· Education requirement can be waived with 10+ years’ experience in Heavy Civil/Marine Construction.

Experience:

· 10+ years’ experience in heavy civil/marine construction.

· Advanced knowledge of construction scheduling, cost control, and ability to control and supervise large teams

Responsibilities:

· Leads Ballard’s safety culture on all projects.

· Develops and maintains relationships with Ballard’s clients.

· Mentors field engineers, project engineers, and junior superintendents.

· Works with pre-construction team to prepare budget and task specific work plans.

· Reviews project estimates, proposals, plans, specifications, and drawings to determine schedule, work planning, staffing requirements, and allocation of available resources to safely, and efficiently, complete the project.

· Confers with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.

· Change order recognition and management.

· Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly schedule updates.

· Maintains project document control.

· Prepares and maintains project cost forecasting.

· Maintains all daily project logs.

· Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel, subcontractors, consultants, and vendors to ensure project progresses safely, on schedule and within budget.

· Works with and is part of the estimating departments during project procurement phases.

· Performs Quality Control duties as required.

· Local travel required. Local travel is defined as any travel required to complete projects within the region where you are working. Typically, this travel is within a 6-hour drive of Washougal and can require staying near project sites while work is going on.

· Occasional National travel required. National trips will typically be for 2-5-day durations, occurring 0-6 times per year.

· Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

· The ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.

· Working outdoors in various temperatures and conditions for long periods of time

· Will wear various PPE (respirators, fall protection, etc.)

· Will travel on various land, water, and aircraft

· Lifting, climbing, pulling, pushing, squatting for various periods of time

· Climb ladders, work at heights, walk and stand on uneven surfaces, ride, or work from a barge, pier, vessel, etc.

· Ability to sit, stand, kneel, squat, push, pull, etc. for varying amounts of time

· Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at a time

· May have prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer
