The Director of Global Planning is an instrumental role at Abiomed, driving strategy, providing resources, and bringing improvements to our global Plan organization. Abiomed is present in most markets of the world, representing more than $1.5 billion of revenue with projected strong growth and premier market positions. This role will lead complex projects of strategic importance, involving cross-functional teams, in support of the organization's overall supply chain planning strategy, including gaining the appropriate budget approvals, to ensure we are continuously prepared to meet the growing demand of our customers. They will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Abiomed Sales & Operational Process (S&OP) which will require building consensus to achieve buy in with cross functional teams at all levels including leadership teams at Abiomed and J&J MedTech. Additionally, the role will have responsibility for planning all NPI phase in/out programs across the business working with the Marketing, Field, Operations, R&D, and Finance teams.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Develop and implement the Abiomed S&OP process. This involves all demand plans, build plans, and the escalation processes to work through any issues that arise. Work closely with commercial and operations partners to implement a successful process developed through best practices with J&J MedTech.

  • Lead the ongoing planning and execution of the Abiomed S&OP plan to ensure availability of the appropriate level of finished goods inventory to supply our patients. This requires close daily, weekly, and monthly collaboration with the Make and Source functions to ensure the plans are achievable and executable to meet the company goals.

  • Establish and implement Abiomed’s finished goods projection process and the communication chain to keep all levels of the business abreast of progress and of any issues that may arise.

  • Implement MRP and MES across the business, working with IT teams in Abiomed and J&J MedTech, and teams from Plan, Source, Make, and Deliver.

  • Managing a multi layered global organization of 37 employees, including 2 Associate Directors and 2 Managers directly. Responsible for driving Credo score improvements aligned with Abiomed’s tactical plan and developing a strong succession plan at all levels of the organization.

  • Represent Global Plan for all scale and process related strategies.

  • Develop key talent within the team making the Global Operations bench stronger.

  • Assess long term Abiomed plans working with cross functional teams to ensure global readiness to produce at scale.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required

Required

  • A minimum 10 years of relevant experience (i.e. Planning, Fulfillment, Supply Chain Delivery, Operations) is required, including 5 years in a leadership role

  • Ability to influence and collaborate across boundaries and understand needs from partners

  • Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and implementing significant influencing roles

  • Ability to work on multiple assignments in collaboration with various department system owners

  • Ability to communicate and work independently with scientific/technical personnel

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities

  • Ability to Communicate ideas and information clearly, effectively, and frequently (oral and written)

  • Ability to travel approximately 20%

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in scientific or engineering discipline preferred, MS or MBA preferred

  • Advanced skills with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access) and Adobe Acrobat Experience across multiple areas of Supply Chain including Plan, Source, Make or Deliver preferred

  • Experience with FDA (or Notified Body) inspections preferred

  • Continuous improvement/lean/six sigma experience, black belt preferred
