Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Maintenance Mechanic Temporary in Commack, New York

Gurwin Healthcare System is a full continuum of care providing extraordinary care and caring to the people that we serve. Set on a 36-acre campus in Commack, NY, the Gurwin Healthcare System includes the 460-bed Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, providing short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care, memory care, respiratory and ventilator care, palliative and hospice care, social and medical adult day programs, and on-site dialysis and infusion therapy. Sharing the campus is Gurwin’s Assisted Living community (Gurwin Jewish Fay J. Lindner Residences), our independent living community (Fountaingate Gardens) and Certified and Licensed Home Care Services Agencies.

Our innovative facility and growing services offer opportunities to advance your career. We are currently seeking a TEMPORARY full-time day Maintenance Mechanic. You will be scheduled to work 8:00am-4:00pm with rotating weekends. Position is expected to last from 4-6 months. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the operation, maintenance and repair of the building, grounds, equipment and utilities of the Center.

    *Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment, boilers, plumbing, and electrical

    *Completes all work orders and preventive maintenance forms, as necessary.

  • Responds to the facility when called in on an emergency or snow.

  • Available to work long hours on an emergency basis.

  • Shows willingness to lend aid to residents and staff.

  • Observes facility and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and participates in Center's fire and disaster plans.

  • Consistently meets performance qualifications.

  • Participates in departmental and facility meetings and training sessions.

  • Completes all work orders and preventive maintenance forms, as necessary.

  • Operates HVAC, mechanical and electrical equipment.

    *Follows dress code and maintains a neat and clean personal appearance.

  • Follows departmental safety policies and procedures/performs duties in a safe manner.

    REQUIREMENTS :

    *Knowledge of the dementia population and dealing with related behaviors.

  • Understands written and oral instructions.

  • Completes work and tasks as directed.

  • Capable of using small hand and power tools.

  • Capable of extensive bending, standing, walking, climbing ladders, shoveling snow and kneeling.

  • Capable of lifting and moving heavy objects (up to 75 lbs).

  • Basic mechanical, electrical and plumbing knowledge.

  • Capable of completing all assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Capable of working in a specialty care environment (sub acute).

  • Capable of troubleshooting building operational problems.

  • Capable of completing assigned tasks appropriately and without call back.
