Job Title : Mechanical Engineer III (ME-AD)

Location: Chandler, AZ

Job Duties: Provide design ownership of solar system components and sub-systems to drive lower cost, increased reliability, and increased application. Work with multiple levels of management, engineering, and other departments to create and select state-of-the-art technologies and products. Utilize tools such as computer aided design (CAD), finite element analysis (FEA) and design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA) and failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA). Take design responsibility for assigned components and sub-systems. Support alternate design exploration for cost reduction, quality improvement, or additional supply purposes. Provide clear direction to cross-functional teams with uncompromising drive to meet program targets. Engage departments across the organization to resolve resource conflicts, remove roadblocks, & implement risk mitigations. Manage the process of scope definition and change control, including estimating and negotiations of program scope variations. Report status of assigned programs at various levels of the organization. Create Design Requirements Documents (DRD) based on Market Requirements Documents (MRD) created by Product Management. Create plans for component and system tests and interpret results to demonstrate that designs meet requirements. Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts on components and sub-systems. Read and process engineering documents, including process design guidelines, manufacturing drawings, and engineering best practices guides. Create design concepts using SolidWorks and analyze them for suitability using DFMA, FMEA, FEA, etc. as appropriate. Work with Mechanical Designers to create detail CAD models and drawings. Develop timelines and cost estimates for development tasks and appraise management of performance to plan. Generate design history and design record documents in compliance with company requirements. Work with the Quality department to develop inspection and test plans for supplier qualification of components and sub-assemblies. Assess reliability, safety, performance, and risk of designs and methodologies; coordinate and communicate development schedules and compatibility or design issues throughout the team continuously. Oversee testing and theoretical analysis of products to determine product safety and efficacy. Drive designs from concept through to production and on to full installed field support: developing all documentation to support internal and external customers.

Education and Experience: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field plus three (3) years of related experience. Will accept Bachelor’s degree followed by five years of progressive, related experience in lieu of a Master’s plus three years’ experience.
