Job Summary:

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a highly motivated individual to support research, development and production of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) turbine components. CMCs are an enabling material that increases the temperature capability of jet engine components. Through successful development and application of these materials, P&W will deliver engines that are more fuel efficient, lighter weight and more durable for commercial and military applications. The Metrology Inspection Technician will share responsibility for the development and execution of the processes needed to determine product dimensions and performance characteristics. Responsibilities also include the maintenance of measurement tools and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program, set up, and operate a Zeiss coordinate measuring machine (CMM)

  • Read and interpret CAD models, technical drawings and specifications including GD&T

  • Perform Blue Light inspections of parts and tools then issue dimensional conformance reports

  • Perform manual layout using surface plates, sine plates, and height stands, inspect using hand gages (micrometers, calipers, and pin gages), interpret blueprints, specifications, sketches including geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T) requirements

  • Support other Inspection areas as required (airflow, non-destructive test, etc.)

  • Optimize inspection methods (e.g., precision & accuracy vs. speed) and work within quality management system and safety standards

  • Train colleagues/technicians/inspectors, s upport general quality activities including visual inspections, final and receiving inspections

  • Compile and analyze measurement data, trends, and statistics to assess measurement methods, process capability, repeatability and reproducibility and use Trigonometry, Geometry, Statistics and basic math problem-solving skills

  • Identify and Report Non-conformances of product or processes and provide support for Root Cause and Corrective Action investigations

  • Typical shift start time is 6:00am

    Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

  • 6+ years inspection experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two year technical degree

  • Experience programming CMMs, preferably utilizing Zeiss CALYPSO software

  • Proficiency programming ATOS Blue Light scanners utilizing GOM software

  • Proficiency utilizing surface plates, sine plates, height stands (including compound angles)

  • ASQ certification as Certified Quality Technician (CQT), or Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), Certificate in quality control or manufacturing

  • Experience in product development, manufacturing or inspection within an AS9100 certified aerospace company

  • Basic understanding of typical quality tools including 8d, statistical process control, FMEA and control plans.

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

    The salary range for this role is $28.00 to $42.00 per hour; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.​ ​
