DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Position Title:  Tax Accountant, Income and Franchise Tax (P1-P2)* 

*Level will be determined commensurate with experience. 

Role  This role focuses on the administration of income tax compliance including REIT specific provisions, franchise tax compliance, and tax financial statement reporting. This includes interpreting and applying the laws of all fifty states, Puerto Rico and Canada as well as various counties and municipalities to the multiple companies and various entity types owned by CCI. Position will work closely with the Tax Managers, other Sr. Tax Accountants, and Tax Accountants in the Tax Department to ensure compliance. This person must stay abreast of any changes to relevant tax laws and financial accounting standards. 

Responsibilities   * Assist in preparing, reviewing and analyzing income tax and franchise tax filings  * Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial accounting requirements related to income and franchise taxes.  * Assist with computation of quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments and extension payments.  * Develop a working understanding of REIT standards and qualification tests.  Compile and analyze information needed for REIT qualification testing.    * Conduct thorough research through the Internal Revenue Code and Treasury Regulations utilizing third party research software (BNA and CCH). 

  • Contribute to the documentation for income and franchise tax procedures for SOX-404 testing. 
  • Prepare correspondence with various taxing agencies involving audits and refunds 
  • Interact and communicate with Finance team members. 
  • Assist with income/franchise tax integrations of acquisitions. 
  • Assist with other duties and projects related to income tax as needed. 

Education/Certifications  * Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Relevant coursework in taxation is preferred. 

Experience/Minimum Requirements  * One (1) to six (6) or more years of experience in income or similar tax  * Knowledge and experience with accounting systems  * Advanced knowledge of working with large datasets within Excel or similar software 

Expectations   * Understanding of income tax laws, regulations, and procedures.  * Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex tax issues.  * Proficiency in tax software and accounting software.  * Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in working with numbers and financial data.  * Effective communication skills to explain complex tax concepts to clients and colleagues.  * Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.  * Strong time management skills to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.  * Integrity and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive financial information.  * Professionalism and a commitment to maintaining professional knowledge and development.  * Ability to learn Crown Castle proprietary software

Working Conditions: This role falls into our hybrid work model working in the office on Monday through Thursday.  On Fridays, teammates on the hybrid schedule will have the option to work from the office or home.  There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that could require travel.
