ManpowerGroup Senior Process Engineer in Calumet City, Illinois

Senior Process Engineer reports to the Plant Manager. This position is responsible for process improvements involving new equipment, procedures, and policies to positively impact the safety, cost, quality and reliability of the production unit and profitability of the business.

As a senior member of the plant operations team, this person will collaborate with technical staff, business group, corporate technology, and engineering consultants to provide process engineering support. The Senior Process Engineer must be hands on and data focused, with the ability to work well with operators, plant maintenance teams, plant scheduling, and other multi-discipline teams. The Senior Process Engineer will train and qualify as a Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt and drive Lean Six Sigma processes in the operation.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

Senior Process Engineer manages the activities of appointed Process Engineers within their location, who support the manufacturing activities at a chemical process manufacturing facility by:

  • Providing technical support either direct or in support of facility management team, to improve ongoing manufacturing and utility operations. Assisting production area and quality assurance personnel in troubleshooting operating and/or process problems to determine and correct root causes. Providing operator training where necessary.

  • Leading continuous process improvement by identifying and implementing ways to reduce manufacturing costs, increase capacity, improve process capability, and improve product quality. Facilitating transfer of best practices.

  • Maintaining the technical process knowledge for the facility and the product line incl. SAP recipe management.

  • Facilitating business growth, by performing all the necessary technical activities associated with new product introduction into Manufacturing, modifying existing processes to gain additional business and increasing production capacities to meet new product demand. Staying up to date with business needs by open communication with product and business management.

  • Supporting Quality Assurance by participate in investigation of customer complaints and provide process technical support when necessary for customer audits. Uses statistical analysis tools and structured problem-solving tools to define process capability and identify root causes to problems.

  • Providing technical expertise and support to help ensure that all applicable corporate guidelines and governmental regulations are met for existing processes and provide input to new processes, new capital investments and any changes made to the current processes or manufacturing procedures to ensure compliance (PSM, environmental, FDA 1) , etc.)

  • Contributing to development of process engineering data packages for capital expenditures.

  • Lead or participate during Process Hazard Analyses

  • Demonstrate leadership in reliability improvement teams.

  • Demonstrate leadership regarding Loss Control policy, PSM, AIMS, ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 Management.

  • Developing and mentoring new talent.

  • Complies with all regulatory requirements, industry best practices and internal policies.

  • Travel to vendors, corporate offices and other Arkema plants may be required.

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.

  • Participates fully in the plant HES activities and programs .

Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

Required Education/Qualifications/Work Experience

  • Experience is required working in process technology such as a process engineer, technical manager, and production manager.

  • Three years’ experience or more with existing facility process technology is preferred.

  • Production experience is preferred.

  • Experience with process safety management, cost accounting, quality systems, cGMP 1) , statistical process control (such as Six Sigma) and process validation 1) in large scale specialty chemical company is highly desirable.

  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability and skill to understand and troubleshoot unit operations and define improvement to meet safety, environmental and production goals.

  • Ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.

  • Skilled database development and management skills.

  • Ability to learn and use SAP programs and reports.

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (both written and verbal).

  • Highly motivated team player able to work at a fast pace.
