WATER SYSTEM DISTRIBUTION OPERATOR

Lake Charter Township Water System is currently accepting applications for a day-shift water system distribution operator.  Hourly Wage scale: S-4 minimum licensed $26.54-30.42, non-licensed $25.36 (must acquire a minimum S-4 license within 18 months)

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Under close supervision, this position is responsible for assisting with operating and maintaining the water distribution system during the assigned shifts Monday -- Friday, 6:30 AM -- 3:00 PM. This position will require on-call availability for emergencies.  Reports to Assistant Water Treatment Plant Superintendent.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists with the operation and maintenance of the water distribution system, including Operating a backhoe and front loader, underground locating, installing new water taps, repairing water main breaks, valve turning, hydrant operation, meter installations, and repairs, collecting water samples, operating existing GIS system.  This position requires the potential for distribution operators to work during emergency situations.  This can include any time of the day, including weekends and/or holidays.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • Water Utility and Distribution Management -- Knowledge of water utility organization and operations and the principles, practices, and methods utilized to treat and distribute potable water in a public water supply system.
  • Laboratory Analysis -- Knowledge of chemical and bacteriological principles, terminology, analytical techniques and methods, and equipment for water analysis.
  • Water Regulation -- Knowledge of EPA, OSHA, EGLE, and state laws and regulations that apply to drinking water. Knowledge of the processes and treatment techniques involved in drinking water.
  • Safety -- Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to equipment operation and other work-related precautions.
