Job Summary
The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) invites applications for an Assistant Vice President for Operations to report to Vice President for Research and Innovation (VPRI), Kate C Miller, Ph.D. Dr. Miller is now experiencing a significant expansion thanks in part to substantial new investments on the part of the State of Texas. For the role of Assistant Vice President for Operations, Dr. Miller seeks a strategic advisor who also has strong capacity to coordinate and facilitate a range of initiatives and projects that engage university stakeholders as well as external partners on her behalf. This role offers the opportunity to works closely with other senior leaders to help to shape and drive research and innovation at UTA and to make a lasting impact on the advancement of knowledge and innovation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as a trusted advisor and confidante to the Vice President of Research and Innovation, providing counsel on a wide range of strategic and operational matters.
Assist the Vice President of Research and Innovation in prioritizing incoming requests, issues, and decision making to make the best and most efficient use of time in pursuit of UTA’s strategic goals.
Coordinate and facilitate key initiatives, projects, and events on behalf of the VPRI, collaborating with stakeholders across the university and external partners.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, donors, sponsors, and community leaders.
Support the Vice President of Research and Innovation in planning, resourcing, implementing, and monitoring strategic initiatives to advance the university’s research priorities and goals.
Provide guidance on administrative matters, including budgeting, finance, human resources, and operations within the Office of the Vice President of Research and Innovation.
Serve as a liaison between the Office of the Vice President of Research and Innovation and other units within the university, especially the Offices of the President, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, and the Deans of Academic Colleges to ensure effective coordination and communication.
Conduct research, analysis, and reporting on topics of interest to the VPRI, preparing briefings, presentations, and other materials as needed.
Performs other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Demonstrated experience as a chief of staff, deputy, or senior advisor to an executive.
Previous supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree
Five years of demonstrated experience as a chief of staff, deputy, or senior advisor to an executive.
Previous experience working in higher education and large research universities, in academic administration, and/or research administration, including innovation and entrepreneurship.
Track record of increased responsibilities.
Track record of success in budget and project management.
