The Specialist Electronic Devices Registered Nurse (RN), is responsible for providing pacemaker/defibrillator and implantable loop recorder implementation preparation and follow-up care to aid in the treatment of diseases of the conduction system. You will become familiar with complex medical histories, innovative surgical procedures, pain modalities, and comprehensive nutritional support.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides pacemaker/defibrillator implantation preparation including pre and post implant patient and family teaching, pre-discharge threshold testing, and follow up outpatient monitoring.

  • Provides implantable loop recorder pre and post implant instructions to the patient and family and follow up outpatient monitoring.

  • Receives and processes transtelephonic data from pacemaker and arrhythmia patients.

  • Prepares and educates patients, families, and employees about procedures to be administered.

  • Maintains and updates patient records.

  • Maintains and updates device tracking records for statistical and alert/recall purposes.

  • Maintains equipment in proper working condition and notifies Biomedical Engineering when new programmers are received. Notifies manufacturer representative when equipment is defective and removes equipment from service.

  • Assists with departmental quality improvement review, projects and initiatives.

  • Participates in community outreach events sponsored by AGMC/HVC.

  • Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.

  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintains required CPR.

  • Remains flexible to work in and cross train between other areas in the Heart and Vascular Center.

  • Supports and participates in community wellness programs.

  • Serves as preceptor for university students in nursing and/or other health sciences.

  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse with license to practice in the State of Ohio. Maintains current CPR certification with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.

Complexity of Work:

  • Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.

Work Experience:

  • Three to five years nursing experience in critical care or cardiology. Previous electrophysiology experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.

  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
